Amir receives phone call from Venezuelan president
DOHA: His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has received a phone call from President of the friendly Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela HE Nicolas Maduro. During the call, the President of Venezuela affirmed his country's solidarity with the State of Qatar and its strong condemnation of the Iranian attack on Al Udeid Air Base, which constituted a flagrant violation of the State of Qatar's sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law and the United Nations Charter. He stressed his country's absolute rejection of any aggression that threatens the security and safety of the State of Qatar and undermines the security and stability of the region. For his part, HH the Amir expressed his thanks to the president for his sincere feelings and appreciated solidarity with the State of Qatar and its people.

Transport ministry oversees phased trial of electric autonomous taxis
DOHA: The Ministry of Transport has announced that Mowasalat (Karwa) began operational trials of Level 4 autonomous electric taxis in selected areas of Qatar, covering both tourist and service routes. In coordination with the Ministry, Karwa will conduct route mapping over the coming period in preparation for a two-phase pilot launch of the autonomous taxis. The first phase will involve trial runs without passengers, monitored by a specialized team. The second phase will see full-scale testing with passengers but no driver, continuing through the first quarter of next year. The trials aim to evaluate the technology's readiness and operational efficiency, alongside establishing regulatory frameworks and preparing the necessary infrastructure - part of Qatar's broader future smart mobility initiatives. This new pilot builds on the positive outcomes of previous autonomous electric bus trials and aligns with the Autonomous Vehicles Strategy developed by the Ministry. The strategy promotes the integration of advanced, eco-friendly smart technologies into Qatar's public transport network. Each autonomous taxi used in the trials is equipped with six long- and mid-range cameras, four radars, and four LiDAR units, enabling precise detection and navigation control during operation.

Qatar Media Corporation wins six gold awards at 2025 Arab Radio and Television Festival in Tunisia
DOHA: The Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) achieved a remarkable accomplishment by winning six gold awards at the 25th Arab Radio and Television Festival, which concluded in the City of Culture in the Tunisian capital. This unprecedented accolade affirms the organisation's commitment to quality media content and strengthening its Arab presence. In this context, Qatar TV and Radio were crowned with these golden awards, as Qatar TV won the golden award in the 'Comedy Series'category for the series 'Mordi and Daham 2', while the program 'The Promising Generation'won the golden award in the 'Children's Programs'category. The report 'Electronic Fraud'won the golden award in the 'News Report'category, while the documentary film 'Gaza Nightmare'won the golden award in the category of television films and documentaries on the Palestinian cause. Qatar Radio won two gold awards;the first in the 'Scientific Programs and Artificial Intelligence'category for the 'Push Button'program. The radio also won the second gold award in the 'Awareness'category for the 'Will'program, which focused on respecting one's neighbours. In this context, Acting CEO of the Qatar Media Corporation HE Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al Thani, congratulated Qatar Radio and Television on winning six gold awards at the 25th Arab Radio and Television Festival in Tunisia. In a post on his official X account, he affirmed that this achievement embodies the excellence of Qatari media and reflects the efforts of his colleagues in providing high-quality media content. He wished everyone success and looked forward to achieving further successes. For his part, Director of Qatar TV Ali Saleh Al Sada said: "We are proud of this great achievement, which reflects Qatar TV's presence in the Arab media landscape and demonstrates the quality of production, the distinction of the media message we convey, and the extent of the effort expended." Al Sada pointed out that winning several gold awards at the Arab world level did not come out of nowhere, but rather is the result of a clear media strategy and a national vision that keeps pace with new developments. This brings the total number of awards won by the Qatar Media Corporation this year to eight, as part of its participation in the 2025 Arab Radio and Television Festival, achieving the largest number of awards in the history of its participation in the festival. The 25th Arab Radio and Television Festival was held in the Tunisian capital, Tunis, from June 23 to 26, under the theme 'A Space for Convergence and Creativity'. The festival is considered one of the most prominent annual events in the Arab world, and is organized by the Arab States Broadcasting Union with the aim of developing media production, honouring creators, and improving the quality of content. The festival also honors distinguished content on Arab radio stations and channels, and is an annual platform for celebrating Arab media creativity. It also encourages creative competition by organizing radio and television competitions between member states, and contributes to strengthening cooperation between Arab media institutions.

Qatar participates in Global Humanitarian Forum in London
LONDON: The State of Qatar participated in the Global Humanitarian Forum held in London, which was organised with the participation of the Doha Forum. The State of Qatar was represented at the forum by Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad. In her address to the forum, the minister emphasized the importance of adhering to a principled and consistent approach to humanitarian work, especially in light of escalating global crises and challenges. She noted that, when legal frameworks are not upheld, principles and ethics must guide humanitarian action to ensure its continuity based on neutrality, non-discrimination, and the protection of human dignity. She stressed that implementing international humanitarian law and related conventions is not a choice but a legal and moral obligation to safeguard civilians and preserve human dignity. The mionister also pointed out that ongoing serious violations of these laws underscore the urgent need to uphold humanitarian and ethical principles, describing them as the strongest defense against violations and the foundation for protecting human rights and promoting global humanitarian justice. She also affirmed that Qatar is committed to playing an active role in promoting dialogue and striving for stability. She highlighted the country's unwavering commitment to delivering humanitarian aid to those who need it most, particularly the most vulnerable, without discrimination. The Minister of State for International Cooperation further said that the State of Qatar gives special attention to supporting women in conflict zones and is committed to highlighting their role in peace and security processes through various initiatives that reflect the country's belief in empowering women as key partners in achieving stability and building communities.

Commerce minister holds meeting with Qatari manufacturers
DOHA: Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani held a meeting with a number of Qatari manufacturers, as part of the Ministry's ongoing commitment to monitor the status of the national industrial sector and support industrial investors. According to a statement from the Ministry, the meeting addressed key challenges facing factory owners and explored ways to enhance the competitiveness of the industrial sector, stimulate its sustainable growth, and support local production. The discussion also covered current regulatory procedures and included proposals to improve the industrial business environment and facilitate the establishment of new projects. During the meeting, the Minister of Commerce and Industry emphasized the importance of joint efforts to create a stimulating and attractive industrial investment environment. Such an environment, he noted, would help boost the sector's contribution to the national economy and diversify sources of income. He affirmed that the national industrial sector is a fundamental pillar in achieving economic development and broader national goals. He informed the industrialists that the Ministry's medium-term plan is to focus on its supervisory role, while transferring operational responsibilities to Manateq (Economic Zones Company) to enhance operational efficiency in industrial zones, streamline procedures, and accelerate processes. This approach aligns with the directives of the Prime Minister, Qatar's National Manufacturing Strategy, and the Third National Development Strategy, particularly in areas such as improving industrial infrastructure, updating legislation, and enhancing the quality of services provided to investors. The meeting also addressed the challenges faced by factories in dealing with Manateq following the transition of the Small and Medium Industries Zone to direct management by the company.
